Cristina Candea is a criminal defence lawyer at Berkes Law. She obtained her law degree concurrently with her Masters in Philosophy from Osgoode Hall Law School and York University. While at law school, Cristina developed her advocacy skills by leading community outreach projects at Defence for Children International in Ghana, by participating in the Gayle Cup Mooting Competition, and by negotiating cases at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
Cristina was called to the Bar in 2019. Prior to practicing at Berkes Law, she articled with a team of experienced criminal defence lawyers in Toronto. She gained experience working on a variety of complex trials and appeals — including homicide, drug trafficking, domestic assault, robbery, and sexual assault. She walked many clients through the different aspects of the justice process, from helping secure bail variations to enrolling youths into diversion programs. She has appeared and made submissions at the Court of Appeal.
Cristina is always dedicated to the short-term and long-term wellbeing of her clients. She is patient, and believes that it is vital to understand the perspective of the individuals she represents. Cristina ensures that her clients thoroughly understand the criminal justice process and that they are in the best position to make informed and intelligent decisions about their future.
